WHAT IS BAPTISM?

In the early church, when people placed their faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord, they were baptized: dipped in water and raised out as a symbol of their sins buried at the cross, and raised with Jesus to eternal life in Christ.

Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It's a public declaration of how Jesus changed your life (Acts 16:31-34). Baptism doesn't save a person, rather it's a symbol and celebration of salvation (1 Peter 3:21).

WHY GET BAPTIZED?

Jesus instructs us to be baptized and set the example by being baptized (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 1:9).

Obedience to Jesus shows we believe and follow Him (1 John 2:3). Because Jesus went public about His love for us, we can go public about our love for Him. Being baptized shows that we turn away from a life of sin toward Jesus, the only one who can change us (Acts 2:38-41).

HOW TO GET BAPTIZED

If you haven't been baptized since you decided to follow Jesus, we want to help you take your next step. At Grace Church, we believe in full immersion baptism for those who have made the personal choice to make Jesus their Lord. Those who wish to be baptized can register for one of our Baptism Sunday Services throughout the year, or even ask their House Church Leader to baptize them.

Upcoming Dates for Baptism at Grace Church:

IS MY CHILD READY

Grace Church advises baptizing children when they are mature enough to understand and articulate their personal, conscious decision to follow Jesus Christ, which usually occurs once they are at least 10 years of age or older, not as infants. Baptism should be a demonstration of repentance and belief in the gospel, and a child must be able to express these concepts before being baptized.

  • Understanding the commitment:

Baptism is a public identification with Christ, and this requires a child to have the intellectual and spiritual maturity to grasp what they are committing to.

    Demonstrating faith:

Before baptism, a child should be able to articulate their repentance, their belief in Jesus, and their choice to accept His rescue.

    Avoiding false assurances:

The purpose of baptism is to show a true, saving faith. Delaying baptism until a child can express this commitment prevents the potentially harmful situation of a child being baptized without genuinely understanding the gospel.

What to look for in a child:

    A genuine relationship with Jesus.

The ability to remember and understand the significance of baptism.

The capacity to articulate their belief in the gospel and their personal decision to follow Christ.

AFTER BAPTISM

The day of baptism will be a public declaration of your faith for the whole church to celebrate along side you.

Once you’ve made that public declaration, we invite you to participate in a four week class about the fundamentals of following Christ according to the Bible that we call The Way of Jesus.

Watch the videos to learn more about baptism and The Way of Jesus class.
